Owner
Michael co-founded Lumen with Joel in 2015 with the mission to provide the best building experience with thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship and exceptional service. He received a Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Science in Design from the University of Nebraska and has been practicing architecture since 2002 and building homes since 2004. Both a licensed architect and general contractor, Michael designs and builds every home as if it was his own, knowing the job is well done when clients pass on referrals.
Owner
Joel had been remodeling and building in Denver since 2008 when he and Michael teamed up to start McAtee Levy Development in 2011 and then Lumen Homes in 2015. With a Bachelors in Business Management from California State University Fresno, Joel has always been drawn to both construction and real estate, and is a licensed real estate broker. He enjoys working with homeowners and the connections formed and takes great satisfaction and pride in seeing finished homes.
Lead Designer
As owner of McAtee Studio Design, Paula works with Lumen Homes as the lead interior designer. She earned her BFA in Interior Design from The University of Kansas and holds a NCIDQ certification and LEED AP accreditation. With more than 15 years of residential and commercial experience, her vision and expertise blend her clients' goals with current and timeless design trends. Paula has received several Interior Design awards and her work has also been featured in 5280 Magazine. She takes a fresh, modern approach to her interiors and creates inviting spaces that meet the needs of her clients for years to come.
Construction Manager
Lindsay manages the day to day of the building process at Lumen. She has been a project manager since 2010 - including a large hotel and apartment complexes - and with Lumen since 2014. She creates the project schedules, coordinates with subcontractors, meets with inspectors and is on site daily making sure the project stays on deadline. A graduate of Clemson University, Lindsay played professional soccer and was a Division 1 Women’s Soccer Coach. She is invested in delivering a quality product to clients and values the relationships built with the subcontractors, inspectors and homeowners.
Director of Operations
Alyssa moved from Los Angeles, California to Denver in 2013 after graduating with a BA in Liberal Studies from CSULA. She oversees all aspects of each department at Lumen Homes and is responsible for daily operations, improving company processes, bid procurement, human resources, and tries to foster a work environment in which people can perform to the best of their abilities. Alyssa’s passion is to always be improving Lumen Homes operations to ensure the business runs smoothly and clients have an exceptional experience.
Superintendent
Rand joined the Carpenters Union apprenticeship program in 1985 and eventually became a Journeyman Carpenter in 1989. He stayed in the construction field, owning his own company and working on single family homes in Idaho. For the last 20 years he was employed and traveled for a construction company licensed in 47 states. He worked in 17 of those different states, including Hawaii, and Alaska on custom homes, multifamily, commercial buildings and schools. He recently traded in his travel construction position for the Lumen Homes superintendent role, and is enjoying settling down and being in one place. As an onsite superintendent, Rand will continue to uphold the integrity of the Lumen Homes mission of providing quality homes while supervising and coordinating with sub-contractors.
Architectural Designer
Will is a Colorado native who grew up working for his father’s construction business, which transitioned into a design/build company and led to his interest in Architectural Design. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Design from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2008, often working on both the design and construction of various residential projects during his education. With this experience he created a design firm and enjoys working with clients to develop exciting projects. Will prides himself on clear and concise plans—understanding that a successful project needs quality design that can be built effectively in the field.
Bookkeeper
After starting a career in production scheduling and planning during the beginning of Silicon Valley tech craze, Christie knew she had an affinity for numbers and problem solving. She has more than 25 years of experience in administrative duties including accounting, receivables, payables, collections, account tracking and reconciliation and most recently managed government funded programs for Almond Farmers in the Central Valley of California. Settling in Colorado after 8 years of retirement and travel with her husband, she was ready and excited to get back to work and missed being part of a team that has common goals. Christie enjoys working for Lumen Homes alongside her team members to exceed expectations and deliver a quality product.
Site Engineer
Roberto “Berto” is a graduate from Elizabeth High School and joined Lumen Homes in 2022. Before joining the team, he was employed by a welding and remodeling company and acquired many of the skills that help him in his current position at Lumen on a day-to-day basis. When he is off the job, he enjoys working on project cars and riding his dirt bike.
Site Engineer
Kaissen is a graduate from Ponderosa High School and joined Lumen Homes in 2022. Before joining our team he worked in construction materials and retail. Kaissen particularly likes working for Lumen Homes because he enjoys learning more about different trades and expanding his knowledge in the construction industry. In his spare time he likes to snowboard in the winter and in the summer he enjoys fishing, golfing and wakeboarding.
